Summer Reading 2025

Color our world

Patrons have been preparing for Color Our World Summer Reading Art Showcase to be held

Thursday, July 24 at the library from 5-7 PM.

(No morning Story Hour that day.)

There will be artifacts to view from all of the activities our patrons have created over the summer. Patrons have been working hard on art projects that have been supported by books purchased through the library. Topics include drawing, painting, storytelling/performing arts, art wearables, photography, and 3D art decor. Teens and adults have created smash books for display. This is also the time to pick up a free book and some ice cream.

Don’t miss this opportunity!

This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

Notes from the Director - Debbie Jameson

Hello Patrons,

With construction over and the dust settled, it is time to take inventory of what changes were made here to the library, what is working, what is not working and what things we can do to help with your literacy journey.

Now, we need your input. You will receive a survey link in the next week with the opportunity to tell us your thoughts! I know this is a very busy family time, and as any staff member will tell you, it’s family first around here so I understand.

Please take a poolside minute to answer a few important questions on how we can make our Ralls County Library even better!! I appreciate your input.

Debbie

Birth to Age 5 Programming

July is here and along with it is month two of Color Our World Summer Reading.

We are averaging about 30 little ones a week for Birth to age 5 story hour. July kicks off investigating fiber art by decorating a hat. We then will look at books that use actual photography as the illustrations. On the 17th we will sculpt with air dry clay. REMINDER: On July 24th there will be NO story hour. From 5-7:00 PM that evening we will celebrate summer reading with an art show. Summer readers and their family may stop in to admire and pick up art work, enjoy a snack, and pick up two new books! There will also be no story hour on July 31st. We will start back up again the first week of August.

The benefits of spending time with family is such a critical component of a full, meaningful life. Remember, family doesn’t necessarily have to be considered blood relatives. Close friends, a guardian, or step siblings are well within the realm of who you consider family.

At the Ralls County Library, we welcome all kinds of family combinations.

Our Family Nights are a great time experience new and different projects embedded with literacy skills. We also love to share great new books here at the library!

Mark your calendars for the return of Family Nights on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays starting in August.
